VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It could soon be a lot tougher to buy a hot dog or some fish & chips from street vendors in Vancouver.
City council now wants potential applicants to go through a strict screening process. The vendors will have to appear before a panel of food and nutrition experts before a new license is issued. The City wants customers to be given more diverse, healthy food options.
On the streets today, Jean-Luc says he’s all in favour of more food selection. “I rarely buy food from the streets because first of all, the choice is nothing I fancy – hotdogs or burgers – not into that.”
Council wants to add 60 new street vendors to the city over the next four years.
