BURNABY (NEWS1130) – It’s being called a bold, pioneering move to help reduce skin cancer among young people.  Now, positive response is flowing in following last week’s decision to ban teens from using tanning beds in the Victoria area.

Tim Takaro is a head researcher at SFU’s health science department.  He says the move is absolutely monumental.

“I think it sends a strong signal; this is about risk communication and a legislation like this will send a strong signal that people need to think twice before lying down on these beds, particularly young people.”

Takaro adds this idea is already sweeping through the US, and he believes the decision out of Victoria will ignite the issue right across Canada as well.
