VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC Hydro says electricity rates will stay the same when smart meter installations start this summer. The meters should cut down on electricity theft and energy consumption.
The corporation admits losing about $100 million a year and rip-offs and grow ops are big part of that.
Deputy CEO Bev Van Ruyven says people should start getting notices in the mail soon, letting them know when their meter will be replaced. “It only takes a few minutes to replace the meter,” Van Ruyven said. “Probably most customers will not be home when that happens. They don’t need to be.”
The installations will begin this summer and finish up at the end of 2012.
