Terry Fox memorial unveiled

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A new Terry Fox memorial has been unveiled at the old plaza at BC Place.

The old stucco archway is being replaced by four bronze statues from life sized to two times human likeness.  They were designed by local artist and writer Douglas Coupland.

Terry’s mother Betty says they are thrilled with the new look.  “I can hardly wait to see what these four Terrys are going to look like.  I love it. It’s very, very nice.  I’m sure there is going to be some inscription that we’ll share with people that haven’t heard about Terry before.”

The new memorial will cost just under $400,000 and be ready by fall.

Betty Fox is also pushing for a national museum and centre in her son’s name to house a vast collection of memorabilia and demonstrate cancer research in action.
