Lions receiver grateful for CFL stepping stone

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux says he thanks the BC Lions organization for giving him the chance to come to Canada and play football after he was passed over in the National Football League draft three years ago.

As News1130 Sports told you first on Saturday, Arceneaux and his agent have reached agreement on a three-year $1.8 million US deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Arcenaux was able to start in the CFL for two seasons, and caught 67 passes for 1,114 yards in 2010.

Arceneaux had tryouts with eight NFL teams before landing the contract with the Vikings. He says he appreciated that the Lions stood by him and allowed him to start for the past two seasons.

In Minnesota he will be coached by Leslie Frazier who, like Arceneaux attended Alcorn State, a small university in Lorman, Mississippi. Arceneaux says the connection factored into his decision to sign with Minnesota.

The BC Lions may have lost one of their veteran receivers but have re-signed running back Jamal Robertson to a contract extension that will keep him in Vancouver through the 2012 season. Robertson led the team in 2010 with 154 carries for 953 yards and also had 54 catches for 387 yards.
