VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Plenty of action for the sports fan this weekend.

NHL

The Vancouver Canucks host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. November 20th at Rogers Arena, the Blackhawks hammered the Canucks 7-1 in Vancouver’s worst loss of the season.

Canucks come into tonight’s game on a four-game winning streak, outscoring the opposition 19-3 in their current run. Roberto Luongo who was pulled from that November 20th loss to the Blackhawks will get his 40th start of the season tonight with Chicago expected to start Marty Turco in goal.

Luongo is coming off a 6-0 victory in Phoenix Wednesday and is now tied for 18th in career shutouts, with former greats Bernie Parent and Ed Giacomin.

The Canucks are expected to have defenseman Aaron Rome back in the lineup from a knee injury suffered in a game at Washington on January 14th. Game time is 7 p.m.

AHL

The Abbotsford Heat continue their American Hockey League road trip with a game in Chicago tonight against the Wolves. It’s another big game for the Heat. Abbotsford sits fifth in the AHL’s North Division but only two points out of fourth.

The Heat will welcome forward Ales Kotalik to the lineup. Kotalik has over 500 games of NHL experience including three seasons of 20-plus goals with the Buffalo Sabres. Faceoff is 5:30 p.m

WHL

Vancouver Giants play their third straight road game in Alberta tonight when they visit the Calgary Hitmen. The Giants edged Lethbridge 5-4 in a shootout on Wednesday night to improve to improve to 12-3 over their last 15 games. The Giants remain one point ahead of Kelowna for first place in the BC Division. Faceoff is 7 p.m.

The Chilliwack Bruins have a road game tonight in Kamloops against the Blazers. The Bruins’ 6-4 loss in Kelowna to the Rockets on Wednesday was their sixth loss in a row, but Chilliwack is still sit just one point behind Kamloops for eighth place in the Western Conference.  Game time is 7 p.m.

NFL

It’s Superbowl weekend. There are nine Super Bowl titles between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers and even though this will be the Steelers second trip to the final in four years, the Packers are still slight favourites. News1130 Sports will bring you scoring updates. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
