Anti-HST protesters rally as Liberals choose new leader

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A handful of people have rallied outside the Convention Centre to protest the Harmonized Sales Tax.

“Fight HST” organizer Chris Delaney says considering the snow, the turnout is not bad. He says their goal is to remind the Liberals most British Columbians don’t want the tax.

He says it’s a good reminder for the new leader that they are inheriting the backlash.

“Knowing the situation, what government wants to come out with a new leader, trying to show a fresh face, trying to win back the confidence of the people by fighting them? It’s crazy. It’s a crazy strategy.”

He says 70 to 80 per cent of people are expected to vote against the tax in the referendum this fall.
