BC business community wants voters to keep HST

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With the HST referendum to be very likely moved to June, you can expect the tax to be once again the topic of heated discussions.

A coalition of BC businesses are banding together to help sway your opinion. The BC Chamber of Commerce and other businesses are eager to launch a vocal campaign to get you to vote to keep the HST.

BC Chamber of Commerce president John Winter says a coalition of 30 businesses called the Smart Tax Alliance has been formed. “The biggest concern for the business community is that the referendum will succeed and that HST could be extinguished.”

As to what that pro-HST campaign will look like, Winter isn’t prepared to say. But it’s safe to assume if the referendum is moved up to June, you’ll be hearing the business community’s concerted arguments for the tax in the coming weeks.
