Canucks acquire two forwards on deadline day

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks acquired a pair of forwards in two separate trades on the deadline day for trades. Canucks sent forward Joel Perrault and a third round draft pick to Anaheim for forward Maxim Lapierre.

The 25-year-old Lapierre is a gritty center that addresses the Canucks’ need for an agitator at forward. Lapierre, who started the season with Montreal, has five goals and six assists this season and should be in the lineup when the Canucks host Columbus Tuesday night. Forward Macgregor Sharp, who had been playing with the Ducks’ Syracuse farm team, was also included in the deal from Anaheim.

The Canucks also acquired forward Chris Higgins from Florida, while sending to the Panthers young defenseman Evan Oberg and a third round draft pick. Higgins, like Lapierre, is a former Montreal Canadien. The winger has 11 goals and 12 assists this season but won’t be in the lineup right away as he recovers from a broken thumb.
