OTTAWA, Ont. – The Canadian Medical Association is warning of a looming crisis in Canada’s healthcare system as costs ride and the population continues to age.
The Toronto Star reports CMA president Jeff Turnbull has called on the federal government to fight this problem as it fought the recession, as he takes part in a cross country campaign aimed at changing our country’s Medicare system.
The CMA suggests focusing on health promotion, creating long term care beds for those not able to take care of themselves after leaving hospital, the expansion of the use of electonic medical records and combining purchasing power to make sure taxpayers get the best value for their health dollars.
Canada’s health-care funding accord between the federal government and the provinces expires in three years.
