Chlorine spill on North Shore

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Four workers at a chemical plant in North Vancouver have been hurt after a chlorine spill.

It happened just after 5 a.m. at Canexus Chemicals. Derrick called us to report the spill this morning, “Apparently there was a sudden chlorine burst inside a tank and there were four construction workers [who may] have been exposed to a significant amount of chlorine,” he says.

Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Kennedy tells us, “There’s [one person] who had respiratory exposure, had inhaled an unknown quantity of the gas.”

“There were three that had skin contact with the liquid chlorine,” he adds.

The leak was quickly contained by crews on the scene. WorkSafe BC is investigating the case.
