Former border security guard sentenced

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – He deliberately and repeatedly breached the trust of Canadians. Those strong words came from a Supreme Court judge today at the sentencing of a former border guard who illegally strip-searched women.

Daniel Greenhalgh, 34, has been handed two years less a day in jail, plus three years of probation.

Crown prosecutor Winston Sayson is pleased. “The sentence imposed by the court is a clear denounciation of these detestable, despicable, and disturbing deeds.”

The defense says Greenhalgh continues to deny his involvement. He was found guily of three counts of sexual assault and one of breach of trust after strip-searching four women at the Peace Arch border crossing in 2007.

The incidents happened either in public bathrooms or at an outdoor construction site.
