Hamhuis is the overtime hero in the desert

GLENDALE, AZ (NEWS1130) – Dan Hamhuis scored twice, the second coming in overtime to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes at the Jobing.com arena.

Hamhuis’ goal came at the 2:13 mark of the extra frame but the game could have been secured even earlier. In the first minute of overtime Alex Burrows got hauled down on a breakaway earning a penalty shot that he didn’t convert.

The two goals by Hamhuis is the first time in his career that he’s tallied twice in a game.

The win is the 20th on the road for the Canucks this year, which leaves the team three off the club record. Of Vancouver’s 14 remaining games, eight are on the road.

Henrik Sedin scored a goal and added two assists to give him 79 points on the season. Hank is now tied for second in the NHL scoring race with Tampa Bay forward Steven Stamkos.

The Canucks head now to San Jose for a date with the Sharks on Thursday.
