Schneider to start in San Jose

PHOENIX (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks stayed in Phoenix following last night’s overtime victory over the Coyotes and practised there today. Canucks will fly to San Jose to continue the road trip at the Sharks Thursday night.

Coach Alain Vigneault has named backup goalie Cory Schneider the starting goalie for tomorrow night. Schneider was in goal last Sunday night in Vancouver’s 3-0 win over Anaheim, recording his first career NHL shutout.

Vigneault was also hopeful that winger Mason Raymond will be able to return against San Jose after missing last night with a sore shoulder. Raymond was back skating on the second line in drills today.

Canucks’ fans might see the debut of forward Chris Higgins on Thursday. Higgins, acquired from Florida last week, skated today with Tanner Glass and Maxim Lapierre on the fourth line. The Canucks also reassigned winger Victor Oreskovich to the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
