BC civil rights group sides with polygamous community

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The state should keep its nose out of people’s bedrooms! That from the BC Civil Liberties Association about the law banning multiple marriages.

The group says the law should be scrapped, because people should be free to make the life choices they want, as long as no one’s hurt.

The association says while it’s concerned about possible cases of child sex abuse in polygamous relationships, it argues the same abuse can happen in ordinary marriages. It says the government should not criminalize consensual adult behaviour.

Final arguments will begin later this month in BC Supreme Court in Vancouver.
