BC should look to wind power in a disaster

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Not much survived near the massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan, but the wind farms are still standing strong.  The Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility says BC should take note.

The organization’s Gordon Edwards says wind energy is helping to keep the lights on during the Fukushima crisis, and no radiation is being expelled.

“If you want to have reliable electricity that is going to be available after such an event wind power would seem to be one of the best ways to go.  Fuel prices don’t go up.  The air is basically free, so once you build the windmill the operating cost is virtually zero.”

He adds the wind is supplying the power for those working on the nuclear reactors in danger of meltdown.

“That’s the nice thing about renewable energy, it doesn’t leave this terrible legacy for our children and grandchildren.  But it also seems to be able to ride out in even these terrible weather conditions.”
