No new charges filed in Bencze case

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Surrey Mounties say no new charges have been laid against TV reporter Ron Bencze, but his arraignment has been put off again, this time until April 14.

At the end of February, lawyers said they received new documentation that needed to be processed, and a similar delay happened.

Surrey RCMP Corporal Drew Grainger says it’s a significant case, dating back ten years. “No new charges have been put forward at this time. It’s not impossible that won’t be the case in the future days ahead of us.”

Bencze, an award-winning Global TV news reporter, is charged with five sex-related counts. Police say they involve a person under 16.

Bencze has been suspended with pay and has vowed to fight the charges. He is also a former employee of News1130.
