VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Canucks are close to wrapping up first overall in the West. It appears six teams are battling for the final four playoff spots. If the playoffs started today, Vancouver would meet Anaheim.

Alain Vigneault’s crew should be the number one seed in the Western Conference, as Vancouver has a ten point cushion with eight games remaining. Vancouver will meet the eighth seeded club in the first round. The Ducks remain in eighth after losing 5-4 to sixth place Nashville.

LA is now fifth in the Conference after a 4-3 shootout victory over San Jose. The Sharks now have the same point total as second place Detroit, but the Wings have a game in hand. The fourth place Phoenix Coyotes moved to within two points of Pacific Division leading San Jose after blanking Columbus 3-0.

In the race for the Presidents Trophy which goes to the team with the best record in the NHL, the Canucks lead Philadelphia by seven points. The Flyers had a shootout loss to the Penguins 2-1. The Flyers still have a game in hand.
