Canadians will head to the polls on May 2nd

By

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Harper says Canadians must give his Conservatives a majority in the May 2nd election if they want to avoid an opposition coalition government.

Harper announced the election date Saturday morning, minutes after Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff issued a statement ruling out an opposition coalition if the Tories win another minority.

But Harper says the Liberals denied any plans for a coalition before the vote in 2008 — then later tried to take power in a deal with the Bloc Quebecois and NDP

Harper says they’re now running on a hidden agenda and Canadians can’t take the risk.

He says the other opposition parties will never accept another minority Tory government and voters need to understand that.

Harper adds only the Conservatives can give Canadians a stable government that will support the fragile economy and create jobs.
