VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There are seven days left in the NHL season and seven teams are in the hunt for the final five playoff spots in the Western Conference. Vancouver, Detroit and San Jose have clinched playoff spots.

The Ducks could have locked down a post season spot with a regulation win, but Dallas snapped a six-game skid, winning in Anaheim 4-3. Chicago failed to get out of eighth spot after being blanked at home by Tampa 2-0.  Calgary stayed alive by winning in Colorado 2-1.

The Flames are a point behind the Hawks, but Chicago has two games in hand. Anaheim remains in seventh, while Dallas is three points out the final playoff position.

Detroit secured a second or third place seed in the conference, after locking down first place in the Central Division with a 4-2 win over Minnesota. The Wings are one point better than Pacific Division leading San Jose.

In the Eastern Conference, Buffalo moved into seventh, after a 2-1 OT win in Carolina, while the Rangers needed a shootout to dispatch Philadelphia 3-2.

The Sabres have 90 points. The Rangers are in eighth spot with 89 points followed by the Hurricanes with 87. Toronto is still technically in the playoff hunt, five points out of eighth. All the Eastern teams mentioned above, have three games remaining.
