Lack of effort riles Canucks’ coach

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks had one more practice Monday before a flight to Edmonton for Tuesday’s rematch of Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Oilers.  Coach Alain Vigneault was obviously unhappy with the players’ effort especially following Saturday’s disappointing loss.

Vigneault stopped practice at one point to give the players an earful.  Vigneault said later that “if your coach has to stop practice one time during the year if he’s not happy with execution or total involvement, it’s been a pretty good year.”

The Canucks’ second line will be reunited Tuesday in Edmonton as winger Mikael Samuelsson has been cleared to return from a lower-body injury.  That has prompted the team to return winger Victor Oreskovich to the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose.

Injured defencemen Alex Edler (back) and Andrew Alberts (wrist) will make the trip to Edmonton but will not return in time for Tuesday’s game. Defensemen Chris Tanev (upper-body injury) and Dan Hamhuis (concussion) continue to work on returning to the lineup. Tanev was not out Monday morning while Hamhuis skated before practice.

Tuesday’s game in Edmonton can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet Vancouver.  Faceoff is 6:00 p.m.
