VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Some store shelves might start looking a little bare in the coming weeks. The devastating double disaster in Japan means we can expect to see fewer TVs, cameras, and other electronics as demand overtakes supply.
Japan has long been a world leader when it comes to production of sophisticated electronics components. The country makes everything from cameras to the glass on the front of your tablet.
Now, Wynne Powell, president and CEO of London Drugs, tells the Vancouver Sun that while Japan is trying to outsource production to other countries, like China and Vietnam, it’s hard for them to pick up all the slack.
He adds Japanese manufacturers would rather short us than take a risk on product quality.
