Canucks GM in the running for a league award

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver’s Mike Gillis, Nashville’s David Poile, and Tampa Bay’s Steve Yzerman are the three finalists for the 2010-11 NHL General Manager of the Year Award.

It’s hard not to put Gillis in the running for this award after the season the Canucks have had, as they won the President’s Trophy as the best team in the regular season.

Gillis made some big free agent signings last summer, which provided depth at key positions when he signed defensemen Dan Hamuis and Manny Maholtra.

Voting for this award was conducted by the NHL’s 30 GMs and a panel of NHL executives, and print and broadcast media. The winner will be announced June 22th in Las Vegas.
