VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You can have your say today. Advance federal election polls open at noon.
It’s been dubbed Canada’s first social media election. But Peter McGregor with Marketing Breakthroughs in Ottawa begs to differ. “The activity on Twitter, for example, is minimal. Some candidates have, maybe, 70 tweets since the campaign began. That’s just ridiculous.”
He says candidates should be tweeting every hour. “Responding to constituents, ensure that there’s lots of public messages and questions — ways to propel their campaign and their platform forward, using tools like Twitter and Facebook.”
McGregor adds it feels like social media has been tacked on to campaigns like an afterthought, rather than being worked in as an important strategic component.
