Whitecaps FC kick-off tough week against FC Dallas

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Whitecaps FC are home to FC Dallas this afternoon for the first of three matches for the ‘Caps this week.

Vancouver is looking for just its second win of the season and will be in tough versus a Dallas team that made the MLS Cup final last year.

However, FC Dallas have had a tough start to the season.  The team has just one win in its first five matches, and are coming off a loss to the Whitecaps’ expansion cousins the Portland Timbers last weekend.

David Ferreira, who was the 2010 MLS MVP, started off his season slowly for Dallas, but has picked up his game recently scoring three goals and one assist over his last two matches.

Today’s match for Vancouver will be the first of a busy week for the team.  The ‘Caps travel on Wednesday to Quebec for the first leg of their Nutrilite Canadian Championship semi-final series with arch-rivals Montreal Impact.  The team follows that up with a game next Saturday in Ohio against the Columbus Crew.

On the injury front for Vancouver, midfielder’s Michael Nanchoff (groin), Shea Salinas (knee) and Terry Dunfield (groin) are questionable.  Captain Jay DeMerit (groin), centre back Greg Janicki (hip), midfielder’s Russell Teibert (hip), John Thorrington (calf), and striker Atiba Harris (knee) are listed as doubtful. Midfielder Gershon Koffie remains on international duty with Ghana’s U-20 national team.

Kick-off is 4 p.m.  Catch all the action on Rogers Sportsnet Pacific.
