DELTA (NEWS1130) – Road crews have so far not clashed with protestors fighting South Fraser Perimeter Road construction in Delta, but the clock is ticking.

Construction crews will eventually have to start paving where the camp is set up but so far contractors say they aren’t seeking a legal injunction to get the protesters out.

TJ Lily is with “Stop the Pave” a group that vows to stay put until arrests are made. “We’re strengthening up the tarp, looking at our next options.  We’re looking at nearby situations.  The developers are not working on this particular site.  They seem to have moved off but they are surveying and working on sites nearby.”

She says they have received a lot of “honks of support” from commuters. “Even from truckers.  Even from older folks.  People are fed up with the construction and the dust and the noise that comes up from River Road already.”

Demonstrators are opposed to the highway saying it cuts through prime farm land and will harm the environment. They argue building new highways is an outdated model for moving people more efficiently.
