Royal Wedding official programme released

LONDON (NEWS1130) -The countdown to the Royal wedding continues as we are now less than 24 hours away from Prince William and Kate Middleton tying the knot.

Alison Eastwood with Hello! Canada is in London for the wedding of the generation and was outside Westminster Abbey when the wedding rehearsal ended.

She noticed most of the wedding party seemed pretty casual. “Particularly Prince Harry; he was the most visible. He was right up against the window, smiling and waving. He’s having a great time because there’s no pressure on him. Only to remember the ring, anyway.”

“Even the Brits who sometimes are surprised at how excited Canadians get over everything Royal are really embracing it,” she explains. “You can see people walking along the street wearing plastic tiaras — mostly women.”

Eastwood has even seen a dog wearing a wedding veil. She tells us tomorrow’s wedding will be biggest in history with more than 2.5 billion people watching it live.

Flowers have been delivered to Westminster Abbey, the barricades have been put up, security has been tightened, and the Royal Wedding souvenirs are selling like hot cakes.

The official 28-page programme has also just been made available for the public to download for free.

The programme features the full Order of Service, a message of thanks from the Prince and Kate, an updated Coat of Arms, along with a stunning new black-and-white engagement photo of the couple, taken by photographer Mario Testino – whose work has been featured in magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair.

The Order of Service has full details about the processions, prayers, readings and music, which includes the traditional English folk song “Greensleeves.”

Kate Middleton requested some modern music be played at the ceremony, as well, with a short ceremonial tune titled, “Valiant and Brave,” after the motto of William’s RAF Search and Rescue No 22 Squadron.

It has also been confirmed that the bride-to-be will promise to love and honour her new husband, but will scrap the outdated “obey” from her vows.

The Official Programme is available electronically in two formats: as a Ceros PDF and as an iBook, compatible with Apple products.

On the wedding day, 150,000 copies of the programme will be sold, with profits benefiting The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry

Fun facts

We’ve been inundated with all sorts of facts about the royal wedding, but this morning we are learning more about the lesser-known details.

Sleeveless dresses are a big no-no for women attending Will and Kate’s ceremony inside Westminster Abbey. Tara Henley with Hello! Canada Magazine says that’s not the only strange tradition:

“Some royal wedding couples in the past have auctioned off their wedding cakes for charity,” she explains. “This is a definite possibility for Kate and William, given the fact they have asked guests to give to a list of charities as opposed to giving gifts, so we may see that.”

When it comes to booze, some royal insiders claim Kate can drink Will under the table. And when she does walk down the aisle, she will be the oldest singleton to ever marry a British king-in-waiting.

No Tweeting!

You won’t be hearing “a little birdie told me” during the royal nuptials.

Westminster Abbey has been declared a tweet free zone. Event organizers have set up signal-blocking technology to prevent royal wedding guests from using Twitter to leak details during the wedding.

The ban will be in effect from early Friday morning until the end of the ceremony.

News1130 will have complete coverage of the Royal wedding starting at 2 a.m. Carl Hanstke will be giving us updates along with correspondents from Macleans Magazine.
