No “Go Canucks Go” for a local car dealership

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After the NHL sent a letter telling them to take down their ‘Go Canucks Go’ sign, Kingsway Honda has made some changes. The dealership is looking to avoid trouble, but they are still very much behind the team.
It turns out “Go Canucks Go” and the team’s logo are protected by copyright.
Kingsway Honda’s General Manager Doug Lum says he doesn’t know if or why the dealership has been singled out, when the city is a virtual sea of Canucks enthusiasm.
“We’re supposed to be all Canucks. We’re all Canucks. We’re big fans at this dealership of the team and we wanted to support them,” says Lum.
But they changed the sign, and now it says, “Go Nucks Go.” The dealership simply replaced the first two letters with a couple of blank spaces, but Lum says everyone will still know what it means.
Vancouver Canucks respond
The Canucks have put out a statement on the Kingsway Honda situation. It says the team respects the importance of exclusivity and corporate partnerships and any businesses trying to generate an unauthorized promotional association with the Canucks will be notified.

Unauthorized activities may take the form of ticket and merchandise giveaways, themed events and storefront signage and displays that are so extensive and/or sophisticated that they create the false impression there is a commercial relationship between CS&E and the business owner.
