Prince William and Kate Middleton wed

LONDON (NEWS1130) – They’re officially the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot at Westminster Abbey this morning.

They met with smiles after Kate’s father walked her down the aisle, though both looked a little nervous — especially the bride.

There were an estimated two billion people watching around the world. One million gathered outside the Abbey, while there were 1,900 guests inside.

Their vows were simple and traditional. Prince Williams vows read “I’ll love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health and forsaken all other, keep thee only unto her as long as we both shall live.”

Kate Middleton then said, “I, Catherine Elizabeth, take thee, William Arthur Phillip Louis to my wedded husband”

Kate wore a V-neck, lace dress with a thin veil covering her face. Will was wearing a scarlet, ceremonial military uniform. After speeches and prayers, the bride’s sister lifted the train as the couple left the Abbey to the sound of wedding bells.

Hello! Canada

Someone who got to take in the special day up-close-and-personal was Alison Eastwood, the Editor-in-Chief at “Hello! Canada” magazine.

She tells us the feeling in London is electric. “We were right outside Buckingham Palace where 600,000 people converged to see the momentous balcony kiss. [It was great] energy from the crowd… and the sun actually came out, there was no rain.”

“It has to be so much weight off their shoulders,” she says. “Now they are just having fun with it. We saw William and Kate driving away from the palace. I think it was an Astin Martin with balloons on it.”

The car also said “just wed” on the back. Hello! Canada will be printing a special commemorative issue of the royal wedding next week.

Breakfast at Hotel Vancouver

A Royal Wedding breakfast is being hosted by the Hotel Vancouver, where Royal fans are wearing competing hats, munching on scones and watching the action unfold on big screen TVs.

No wonder little girls grow up dreaming of their big day. Most of the “oohing and ahhing” there has been over Kate’s gown. It’s unanimous; her dress is one fit for a princess and worthy of a queen.

“It’s the perfect mix of old elegance and modern,” says one woman. “I love it so much!”

In the 900 West Lounge, almost every woman is wearing something on her head; Kate’s fashion-forward influence has officially made it across the pond.

Other parties

There were plenty of other parties around town, too. Stephanie Boisset got together with a group of friends to watch the entire ceremony.

We asked her about the highlights. “Prince William and Prince Harry in the car,” she says. “That was great to see him wearing his red uniform…”

“And then Kate,” she gushes. “That’s what everyone was really waiting for; seeing that dress, the ceremony, the music… seeing everyone’s hats. It was all just spectacular.”

Boisset admits there were plenty of misty eyes during the ceremony.

Will it last?

Things didn’t end well for Prince Charles and Diana, but what’s in store for Will and Kate?

One relationship expert says the newlyweds could have a big battle ahead of them. Laurie Puhn is also the bestselling author of “Fight Less, Love More” and says Will and Kate need to remember money doesn’t buy happiness; sometimes it buys misery.

Puhn tells us they have a lot of decisions to make if they want their marriage to work. “They’ve got some big ones. Deciding about what traditions to follow… And they also have to choose who comes first, the kingdom or their spouse?”

Puhn says Will and Kate need to remember to communicate so they can help keep the love alive. A recent poll out of the States shows about 60 per cent of folks don’t think they’ll live happily ever after.
