SAN JOSE, CA (NEWS1130) – Tomas Holmstrom scored with just over six minutes left in third period to give Detroit a 4-3 win over the Sharks. Pavel Datsyuk had three assists. The Wings still trail San Jose in the series 3-2.

It is the second straight win for the Red Wings in the series, and like Nashville in Vancouver on Saturday, Detroit staved off elimination in Game Five on the road.

Rookie Logan Couture put the Sharks up 3-1, a minute into the third period, but Detroit’s Jonathan Ericsson, Daniel Cleary, and Holmstrom scored in a 10 minute span to cinch the victory. Niklas Kronwall had a goal and an assist for the winners. Devin Setoguchi and Joe Pavelski scored the other San Jose markers.

San Jose out shot Detroit 42-22, as Jimmy Howard blocked 39 pucks in the Red Wing cage.

Game Six will be played in the Motor City on Tuesday night.

The next game for the Canucks and Predators will be played on Monday at 5 p.m. pacific time. Vancouver leads the series 3-2.
