Mounties in Dziekanski Taser case charged

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – As expected, perjury charges have now been laid against the four Mounties who confronted Robert Dziekanski at YVR in 2007.

The officers are accused of lying during the testimony they gave during a public inquiry into Dziekanski’s death.  They had said Dziekanski was violent and refused to co-operate with the Mounties.

The perjury charges were recommended by a special prosecutor in a report released last week, although he didn’t recommend any charges relating to the death itself.

The four officers will make their first appearance in court on June 29th.

Dziekanski died after Mounties tasered him five times.
