VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Whitecaps FC midfielder Terry Dunfield has been called up to Canada’s men’s national team to compete in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup next month in the United States.

Dunfield has appeared for Canada in the youth and senior international levels. The 29-year-old native of Vancouver earned his first senior international cap back on May 29, 2010 in Canada’s 1-1 draw in Venezuela. He also started in a friendly against Honduras, which Canada took 2-1 back on September 7, 2010 in Montreal. Due to Dunfield’s commitments to Canada, he’ll miss at least three matches for Whitecaps FC.

Canada is drawn in Group C with the host United States, Guadeloupe and Panama. The team will start the tournament on June 7 in Detroit against arch-rivals the United States and will face Guadeloupe in Tampa Bay on June 11, before finishing off the group stage against Panama in Kansas City on June 14.

The Gold Cup is the official regional championship of the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football. The tournament also serves as the official qualification tournament for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
