Sprinkling restrictions in place on Wednesday

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Metro Vancouver wants you to stop watering your lawn this summer.

“We’re trying to encourage people not to water lawns at all.  It’s absolutely not necessary.  They’re quite nice when they’re brown anyway.  But secondly, they always come back as soon as the rains come, ” says Metro’s Water Committee chair Tim Stevenson.

But if you do plan to water your lawn, starting Wednesday, you can only do so in the mornings from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.  Odd numbered homes can sprinkle the greens on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.  Meantime, even numbered homes can do the same on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Stevenson adds we will run into water shortages this summer, even though streams are full and much of the snowpack hasn’t melted yet.

“We do have a very large water crunch when it comes to the hottest periods, which [are] July and August.  We’re trying to prepare everyone for that and make sure people know they are to water only in the mornings.”
