Abuse of medical-marijuana licenses on the rise: RCMP

By

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – There were two medical-marijuana grow licenses involved, but police say it was still an illegal grow op on 112th Avenue in Maple Ridge, near 260th. The Mounties say abuse of those licenses is on the rise.

Nearly 1500 plants were found. Health Canada had only granted permission for 220. Constable Michael McLaughlin with the RCMP says police can’t ignore that kind of abuse. “We’re very sensitive to the idea that people who are obeying the law be left alone. However when someone is exceeding their license by a factor of more than seven times that simply can not be ignored.”

He says three suspect arrested are known to police. Along with the pot plants the Mounties also seized a helicopter.
