What’s it like to be a Bruins fan in Vancouver?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Not everyone will be representing the green and blue during tonight’s game. We’re talking with a life-long Boston fan about the challenges of supporting his team in Vancouver.

Angus Godfrey says it hasn’t been easy. “In word: brutal. It’s absolutely ridiculous — the fervour… Vancouver Canucks fans have for their team.”

“But Bruins fans are pretty behind their team as well,” he continues. “It’s not good going out in public cheering on the Bruins when the Canucks are playing though.”

Godfrey has been a fan of the black and yellow since he was a child. “Since I was seven years old! My father took me to a Toronto Maple Leafs/Bruins exhibition game.”

“I was quite a shy little kid,” he explains. “Every time the Leafs scored the crowd went absolutely nuts because it was down in Ontario but every time the Bruins scored it went quiet. I preferred the quiet crowd, so I think the game finished up 7-1 for the Bruins and that was it.”

What has he been hearing from Canucks fans? “Pretty much that they’re going to kick our butts. That’s what it comes down to.”

“They don’t really seem to know much about the Bruins players or the Bruins team. They kind of think we’re a bunch of goons. I say ‘we’ even though I’m not on the team… I should be though.”

He adds he can see the final round going to seven games.
