Big weekend for MMA fans in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a double dose of fun for fight fans this weekend. Aside from the Canucks’ Game 5 tonight, the other big event is for Mixed Martial Arts fans.
Along with UFC 131, there’s the MMA Expo at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Saturday and Sunday. Company president Gerald Chopik says several UFC stars will make appearances, and will even teach you a lesson or two about fighting.
“If you want some serious bragging rights, hit the mats with the likes of Jake Shields and Gilbert Melendez and the coaches,” he says, adding in the seven year history of the MMA Expo, no one’s been hurt.
“You can roll around on the mats with these guys for a day of photos; get to know them personally,” he explains. “They may well become personal friends by the time you’re finished!”
Among other stars making appearances this weekend include Shane Carwin — one of the headliners at UFC 131 tomorrow night at Rogers Arena.
