VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s plenty of local sports happening this weekend.

NHL

It might be the Canucks’ biggest game in franchise history. Vancouver and Boston play Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final tonight at Rogers Arena. The series is tied at two games and is now a best-of-three with the Canucks looking to take advantage of the home ice advantage they earned during the regular season.

The Canucks will need a better performance from the Sedin twins after dropping both games this week in Boston. Daniel Sedin has two points in this series while Henrik Sedin has yet to record a point.

Roberto Luongo needs to find his game. Luongo is struggling after allowing seven goals on the last 23 shots he faced in Boston. The Canucks’ powerplay could also be a key tonight. Vancouver has failed to score with the man advantage in fourteen opportunities over the past two games in this series.

Canucks will make at least one lineup change. Rookie defenseman Chris Tanev will draw into the lineup for Keith Ballard, who had an unproductive game Wednesday night in Boston. Game time is 5:20 p.m.

MLS

The Vancouver Whitecaps face a stiff challenge tomorrow when they visit the Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer action at Qwest Field. The Whitecaps play their first-ever Major League Soccer meeting with  their long-time rivals. Vancouver (1W-6L-7D) has faced Seattle (5W-4L-6D) 112 times dating back to their early years in the old North American Soccer League.

The Whitecaps could get a boost by the return of defender Jonathan Leathers from a calf injury. Leathers is listed as a game time decision. Tomorrow’s match (7:30 p.m.) will also be Whitecaps FC’s first game in this year’s Cascadia Cup competition, with 2011 being the first year that Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland are competing for the trophy as MLS clubs.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC women return from a three-match road trip in California to host the Los Angeles Strikers tonight.  The match kicks off at 8 p.m. at Surrey’s Newton Athletic Park.

CFL

The BC Lions are continuing their training camp in Kamloops. The Lions’ first pre-season game is next Wednesday in Calgary. The team currently has 68 players on the roster and will not make any more cuts till next Tuesday.

UFC
