Researchers find having a pet may reduce allergies in children

By

It seems having a pet during the first year of life can reduce some kids’ chances of developing cat or dog allergies later in life.

Researchers followed nearly 6-hundred kids from birth to age 18.

They found boys and girls with a cat at home before the age of 12-months had about half the risk of being sensitized to cats later in life, and boys with a dog at home had half the risk of being sensitized.

However, girls with a dog at home during their first year actually had an increased risk of becoming allergic later on.
