VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Well-known BC labour leader George Heyman is throwing his hat into provincial politics. He’s going to run for the NDP nomination in Vancouver-Fairview, which is currently held by Liberal MLA Margaret MacDiarmid.

Heyman says his environmental background will be a strong asset:

“I’m hoping Green Party members will see a strong environmental ethos within the NDP and they’ll see candidates like me stepping forward to run for the NDP as being people [and] a party they can support to bring about a real change in government.”

“I’ve seen Premier Clark say that BC has a robust and effective environmental assessment process,” he adds. “In the last two weeks alone, we’ve seen two major reports that say exactly the opposite.

Heyman led the BC Government and Service Employees Union for almost ten years.
