Obama tells Americans ‘compromise is not a dirty word’

By

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWS1130) – U.S. President Barack Obama addressed Americans tonight, urging them to support a reduction in tax breaks for the nation’s wealthiest citizens and corporations, in addition to deep domestic spending cuts.

His 15-minute speech was a reaction to the stalemate in Washington over proposals to rein in the U.S. deficit and raise the debt ceiling.

Democrats in the U.S. have proposed cutting $2.7 trillion over 10 years without any new tax revenue.

If a deal isn’t concluded by Aug. 2, the U.S. could default on its debts.
