VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – The BC government is changing course on a policy that lets caregivers of vulnerable children avoid background security checks.
Adults in more than 1,300 homes will soon face screening like criminal record checks to determine if they should continue to care for a relative’s children.
The turnaround comes from the new Children’s Minister, Mary McNeil.
The previous Children’s Minister had rejected calls from the children’s watchdog to review everyone involved in the program called “Child in the Home of a Relative.”
