Brett Lawrie makes successful Major League debut

BALTIMORE, MD (NEWS1130) – Langley’s Brett Lawrie made a contribution in his MLB debut for the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. The 21-year-old went 2-for-4 with one RBI in a 5-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Lawrie, who was acquired in a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers during the off-season in exhcnage for Shaun Marcum, hit an RBI single in his first career at bat when he smacked a 2-2 pitch right up the middle. He also hit a single into left field in the eighth inning but lost out on another RBI when Colby Rasmus was thrown out at the plate.

The Langley native did have one blemish on his scorebook as he had trouble with a ground ball in the second inning but it didn’t end up costing the Jays.

During a post-game interview Lawrie’s teammates gave him a warm welcome to the big league. First he was hit with the traditional shaving cream pie in the face, which was closely followed by a Gatorade shower.

In his debut, Lawrie batted ninth, wore number 13, and played third base.
