One of two Canadians advance to the Vancouver Open Finals

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Aleksandra Wozniak advanced to the final of the Vancouver Open tennis tournament by defeating American Irina Falconi in the semi-finals 6-4, 6-4. Vasek Pospisil of Vernon lost his semi-final match.

Wozniak is ranked 200th in the world, while Falconi is 81st on the planet. The 23-year-old from Quebec has been ranked as high as   21st in the world, but has had injury problems. She’ll meet American Jamie Hampton for the championship at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Great Britain’s James Ward, took out the sixth seed, Vasek Pospisil, 6-4, 7-5. The 21-year-old from Vernon broke Ward’s serve to tie the second set at 5-5, but the fifth seed broke Posposil’s serve in the next game and served out to take the match in straight sets.

The Men’s final will follow the Women’s final, as former US Open semi-finalist Robby Ginepri will meet Ward on the hard court at Hollyburn Country Club. The winners will earn just over $14,000.
