It’s win number three for Whitecaps FC in MLS

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – French striker Eric Hassli scored a pair of goals, as Whitecaps FC doubled the Chicago Fire in front of almost 19,000 at Empire Field. Gershon Koffie and Camilo had the other Vancouver goals.

Hassli opened the scoring just past the 30 second mark of the game from 20 yards out. He also bagged Vancouvers fourth goal in the 72nd minute. Number 29 now has 10 goals this season, which is only one back of MLS goal leaders Landon Donovan of LA and Thierry Henry of New York. The Caps striker had a penalty kick saved by Sean Johnson in the 44th minute.

The Fire evened the score at one in the 23rd minute on a shot by Dominic Oduro. Vancouver didn’t sulk, as Gershon Koffie restored the lead less then a minute later. Camilo made it 3-1, three minutes into the second half.

It is the Caps first win since a 1-0 shutout over Philadelphia on June 18, which ended a six game winless streak. All of Vancouver’s wins have come at Empire Field.

Vancouver visits DC United in the United States capital next Saturday.
