Newest Lion begins learning new schemes

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions had their first full day of practice ahead of a Saturday night tilt with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the newest Leo, Arland Bruce, had a chance to get familiar with the playbook.

Bruce spent extra time after practice running routes and familiarizing himself with the language the Lions offence uses. This was the first full practice for the 33-year-old since being acquired in a trade from Hamilton last week.

The enigmatic receiver has made an impact on his team already. Quarterback Travis Lulay says that Bruce’s confidence shows through and he’s been a welcome addition to the team so far. Bruce had some nice words for Lulay as well. He described his new  quarterback as someone who always has a positive mindset playing the game he loves.

Bruce is nursing a bit of a sore hamstring but he is expected to make his Lions debut at Empire Field on Saturday against Winnipeg.

A Lions linebacker received some good news today. Solomon Elimimian was named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Week after he recorder 12 tackles and a sack in last week’s win against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
