Vernon’s Pospisil reaches Rogers Cup second round

MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – Vernon’s Vasek Pospisil has advanced to the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal with a shocking 4-6, 6-3 6-4 win over Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Chela.

Chela is ranked 22nd in the world.  Pospisil, the 155th-ranked player is making his first appearance at the tournament and had to battle back from a 4-2 deficit in the third set. The 21-year-old Pospisil also battled through some kind of leg injury during his match.

Pospisil says he is excited at the opportunity to take on one of his tennis idols. Tomorrow he will face Roger Federer in the next round. The Swiss star lost last year’s final to Great Britain’s Andy Murray and is ranked third in the world and third at this year’s tournament. 

Federer will not get his rematch with Murray, who was upset today 6-3, 6-1 by South African Kevin Anderson.
