DAEGU, KOR (NEWS1130) – Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops has won his heat in the shot put at the World Track and Field Championships. He is the top-ranked shot putter on the planet. The final round will be held tomorrow.

Armstrong easily qualified for the final with a throw of 21.05 metres to win Group B. It wasn’t the longest throw of the preliminary round, as German David Storl had a toss of 21. 5 metres to win Group A.

The 30-year-old is trying to become Canada’s first world champion in the event. The six-time Canadian champ has the longest throw in the world this season at 22.21 metres.

This is the last major meet before the 2012 Olympic summer games in London.
