NEW YORK, NY (NEWS1130) – Vasek Pospisil of Vernon had no problem in his first round victory at the U.S. Open and now he prepares to face 25th ranked Feliciano Lopez of Spain in round two.

Pospisil faced Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic in his first match and he cruised to victory, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. Lopez also advanced to round two with a straight sets victory as he downed Tatsuma Ito, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4.

The 21-year-old from the Okanagan is the only Canadian left in the main draw on both the men’s and woman’s side. Frank Dancevic, Rebecca Marino, and Aleksandra Wozniak all fell in the first round.

The 29-year-old Lopez will be a much tougher opponent for Pospisil as he has much more experience. The Spaniard is a 14-year veteran and has two ATP singles titles. He most recently won in February of 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Pospisil is ranked 143rd in the world, which is a personal best. He’s the second highest ranked Canadian male behind Milos Raonic who is sitting out the U.S. Open as he recovers from hip surgery. Lopez is currently ranked 26th in the world.

Lopez and Pospisil are the third match of the day on Friday and they’ll play on Court 8.
