Victoria rowers qualify for 2012 Summer Olympics

BLED, SVN (NEWS1130) – Victoria’s Patricia Obee and Lindsay Jennerich finished second in their semi-final at the world rowing championship. The lightweight women’s double duo qualified for the 2012 summer games.

The pair finished just under a half second behind the Australians in the semi-final heat, which also saw the third-place Americans move on to the final. The other countries which will also row for gold on Sunday in the lightweight double sculls are Great Britain, Greece and New Zealand.

Jennerich was a world champion in the event last year, while the 19-year-old Obee was filling in for Tracy Cameron, who has a rib injury. It was Obee’s second ever race with Jennerich.

Canada has earned a silver and two bronze medals at the world championship.
