Campbell’s impending Order of BC draws ire on social media

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Hundreds of people are protesting through social media sites and an online petition after the BC government announced former premier Gordon Campbell will receive the province’s highest honour.

A BC government news release announced Friday that Campbell will be one of 14 British Columbians who will receive the Order of British Columbia at Government House Oct. 4th.

Creston, BC resident Ingrid Voigt says she started a Facebook page protesting the announcement because she believes others are more deserving of the award than Campbell.

Voigt is the leader of the BC Refederation Party but she says her Facebook site is receiving support from across the political spectrum.

New Democrat Cheryl Baron says she has launched an online petition because she believes Campbell is not eligible to receive the award.

Critics are also protesting the announcement on Twitter.
